My Instagram Posts Itself — An Honest 3-Week Review
A confession: I have not touched my Instagram account in over three weeks. And yet a new post goes up every single morning. Today I want to share, owner to owner, what building that system was actually like.
Why I built it
A store's social media is the classic "I know I should, but it is the first thing to slip" task. After closing, there is no creative energy left. Consistency is everything on social — and human consistency has limits. So I handed consistency to a machine.
What runs on its own
Every day at a set time, the system moves by itself: it gathers the day's material, AI writes the copy, generates the graphic, and publishes to Instagram. The entire plan-create-upload loop lives inside one pipeline. The tools: n8n for automation, AI for writing and images, and Instagram's official API for publishing.
Three weeks in — honest notes
The good: the daily "what should I post today" thought simply vanished, and that is a bigger relief than it sounds. The account never misses a day, so it always looks alive to followers.
The hard parts:
The API authentication was the trickiest bit of the initial setup. And if you leave AI copy completely unsupervised, an awkward sentence slips through now and then. I spent the first week reviewing output and tuning the instructions; after that, it needed almost nothing from me.
The surprise: building the automation became content itself. Like this post.
Realistic advice
Do not start with Instagram automation — it is intermediate-level. Build something easy first, like payment alerts, to experience an automation actually running, then expand to social. That was my path too.
A step-by-step guide to the Instagram pipeline is coming in a future post. If you would rather start from pre-built templates, check the template shop — the payment alerts pack is live now, with more on the way.
